Sissy Spacek

Before being covered in pigs blood
and doing creepy mind tricks on screen,
Sissy played a hitchicker named, of course, Ginger!
Whilst thumbing across the deserts of New Mexico,
Ginger is picked up by an older, freshly divorced, handsome man.
I don't want to ruin the film, but I will say the plot involves romance -
between whom, I'll let you discover after the jump!

A Gay Ginger Play

The Adolescence of Johnnie Walker is a play written by
Queer Ginger Director Johnnie Walker.
Walker studied drama at the University of Toronto and,
despite a few similarities - the lanky awkwardness, the anti-social
tendencies, the love for theater, the homosexuality,
and of course the namesake - Walker states the play is fictional.
Well, Walker, even if the play isn't based on your own adolescence,
I'll be keeping my ear to the ginger telepathy line
so you can tell me when I can catch the play in Victoria again!
For more on the play and the writer check

M.I.A - an Over-Due Response to an Outrageous Video

For those who have yet to see M.I.A's new video for 'Born Free', the video features a round-up of redheads followed by their being shot down like wild animals by what appears to be a S.W.A.T team. The video is really quite gruesome, and has caused quite the uproar. Even some of the murdered redheads are being 'let go' from previously signed roles.

M.I.A's new music video could very well be considered offensive to the Ginger population, but that's if you haven't a clue who M.I.A. is:

M.I.A. is a political musician. Her music is not only danceable, wonderful, singable, and popular amongst both the connoisseur and mainstream critics, it rarely lacks a statement.

The song title itself, Born Free, suggests a certain Americana pride. Songs like 'Born in the U.S.A' by Bruce Springsteen are held in high regard in the West, despite the depiction of a run-down, small-town boy, saddened by war. The most common interpretation is that this boy is a hero - a working class hero, therefore the plight of the average American is glorified. Not an uncommon theme in American pop-culture – they glorify everything.

This song is a play on the ethnocentric values of not only America, but the entire Western world. To ravage another culture because their practises aren’t deemed acceptable by the elite few of the West is hypocritically accepted amongst the general public because media disallows identification between the supposed terrorists and the good ol’ Anglo-Saxon.

A Ginger, on the other hand, is free to roam amongst Westerners relatively freely, but with a growing stigma. Still, most non-ginge Westerners are familiar with Gingers, be they family, friends or co-workers. So to see a Ginger treated as the people America started a war against is disgusting, simply because people of the Western world can identify more directly with Gingers than they can people in the Middle East.

M.I.A is one smart cookie.
She is not trying to promote the mass-murder of the Ginger population, nor is she trying to use ‘shock value’ to gain sales. M.I.A, once again, is making a bold statement.
And I love her for it.

Work in Progress

M.I.A's new video for 'Born Free' has caused a little rattle in the Ginger world.
Don't worry, I recognize this. I'm working on a little piece in response to the video at the moment. Stay Tuned!
But for now, just note how cute the above dino-ginge is!

A Recipe

Ginger does wonders for the digestive system and, when used in the morning, acts as a preventative for digestive issues caused by other foods consumed throughout the day.
Drinking ginger concoctions are also beneficial for flu like ailments or a pesky hangover.
This here is a recipe for a ginger chai.

-1.5 cups water
-1 tablespoon freshly grated, peeled ginger root
-1 teaspoon loose Indian black tea
-1/4 cup organic milk (for a vegan substitute, use soy milk)
-1 tablespoon pure, dark maple syrup
-Steep and Drink!

Our Own Line of Bathroom Fixtures!

Yeah, that's right.
There is a line of bathroom fixtures including full shower systems, sink basins (featured above), plumbing and hardware cleverly named 'Ginger's Bath'.
Not only is that a very good name, everything is as stunning and innovative as the respective bathers...Gingers.
More info can be found at Elte. Quite a nifty site, actually.
